Consumer Cellular
is a nationwide service that has no service contracts and low monthly
calling plans. It is not a cellular network. Instead, it buys time from
national networks.
There are several
companies in the U.S. and other countries like the U.K. who offer similar
packages. You may wish to check them out.
Phones for Life
Phones for Life is a non-profit that provides free cell phones to senior
citizens and the disabled. The senior-friendly phones are to be used in
emergencies only.
There are two types of services available. One service will only connect
to 9-1-1. The other service comes preloaded with 100 unlimited anytime
minutes. Phones for Life will pre-program the phone with up to five
personal numbers. The cell phone is assigned a phone number, so calls can
be received, too.
Plans range from $10 per month (all calls cost 25 cents per minute) to
$60 per month for 1,600 anytime minutes.
Check its Web site to ensure there is service in your area.
Bell Mobility, Canada's premier cell phone company, among others offers a very good

Knowing
and talking to people who use different cell phone carriers and of course our
own experience will give us a good sense of what carrier will be best for us.
There are many good carriers out there and there are some who are not so good,
and then there are some good regional carriers who may not be quite as
efficient at the long distance and out of region service.
Your
needs will determine the sort of cell phone plan. If much of your contact is
with the same person, you might consider a family cell phone plan.

purchased from Bell Mobility (Canada). On a three year contract, we got
two free cell phones of our choice(s), unlimited calling between the two
phones, unlimited free incoming calls, unlimited local evening and
weekends – 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. weekdays and 8:00 p.m. Friday to 7:00
a.m. Monday. No hidden fee for 911 service. Some may see the 100 minutes
for the month as a downside. Again, your calling patterns will help you
in this regard.
