It is probably too early to say yet, but many are already predicting the demise of the Apple iPod. They point out that there was a dramatic drop in PDAs when smartphones became popular. With so many cellphones - both current and in the future - promising huge gigabytes of music memory, the upcoming battle could be very interesting. Nokia's new designer cell phone, identified as RM-140, features a 3-megapixel camera, as well as a second smaller camera for video-calls.

Featuring dual displays, the keypad on the RM-140 are rather large, and instead of Nokia's standard BL-5C battery, uses BP-5M. It supports expansion of memory via MicroSD memory cards.

The phone sports Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and support for GPRS/EDGE networks. USB interface is available for the RM-140, so data transfer

between your phone and compatible PC or PictBridge printer is a breeze. It should be out soon.

Paying by phone is hardly new but as it has been practised in Japan for the past couple of years, it may be available soon in North America. A wireless technology called Near Field Communications enables you just to wave your cellphone near the point of sale terminal and presto the item is automatically paid for in much the same way as our debit card works.
